The US government on Monday imposed an entry ban on two Russian officers accused of “involvement in massive human rights violations” in eastern Ukraine, including Azatbek Omurbekov, DPA reports.

Washington accuses Azatbek Omurbekov, also known as the “Buchi gunman”, of committing “extrajudicial killings of unarmed Ukrainian civilians” in Andriyivka (eastern Ukraine), the US State Department reports.

Later, Omurbekov led his unit, the 64th Motorized Brigade, in the city of Bucha on the outskirts of Kyiv, where Russian soldiers “killed, beat, dismembered, burned, and executed civilians without trial,” the statement cited.

The European Union has already imposed sanctions against Azatbek Omurbekov for his direct responsibility for the atrocities committed in Buch.

The US government also put Corporal Danylo Frolkin on the sanctions list for the murders in Andriivka.

“The information about the involvement of Omurbekov and Frolkin in mass violations of human rights, documented by non-governmental organizations and independent investigations, is serious and trustworthy,” the US State Department emphasized.

Due to the sanctions, Omurbekov, Frolkin and their family members can no longer enter the US.

Following the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022, the US government imposed numerous sanctions against Moscow, Russian institutions, or collaborators of Russian President Vladimir Putin. (Agerpress)
