Ukraine launched a barrage of 15 cruise missiles at a Russian shipyard in the Crimean port city of Kerch on Saturday, damaging one ship, the Russian Defense Ministry said, in an attack that could further undermine Moscow’s combat capabilities, Reuters reported

Thirteen missiles were destroyed in mid-air and one hit a ship, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement as terse as past Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory or infrastructure.

The Russians do not specify the name of the sunken ship.

“I hope another ship followed in the footsteps of Moscow!”

The Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force of Ukraine reported that the Russian Navy has deployed one of the most modern ships there – the Kalibr missile carrier.

During the current war, Moscow has frequently attacked Ukraine with Caliber missiles launched from Russian ships and submarines in the Black Sea.

“I hope one more ship followed in Moscow’s wake!” – Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk wrote in Telegram about the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation sunk by Ukrainian missiles on April 14, 2022.

Photos allegedly showing a strike at the Kerch Shipyard were published on social networks:

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv’s growing ability to strike warships and reduce enemy naval capabilities in the Black Sea undermined Russia’s military efforts and helped Ukraine secure a sea route for grain exports.

Serhii Aksyonov, the head of the “annexed” Crimea chosen by Russia, said that no one was injured in Saturday’s attack on the Kerch Shipyard.

What vessel would be affected

As reported by Ukrainian Telegram channels after the war in Telegram, a small Russian ship with cruise missiles “Askold” was damaged during the attack.

In September, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that the ship of the Black Sea Fleet “Askold” was engaged in the destruction of Ukrainian targets in the waters of Crimea.

According to previous Russian state media reports, the ship, armed with Kalibr missile systems, Pantsir medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, and anti-aircraft artillery systems, is scheduled to be commissioned in the second half of 2023.

“Askold” did not even get to participate in hostilities, said the spokesman of the Air Force of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat.

“There they carried out certain work and the last tests, so that later they would go to sea and fight against our country,” he added.
