He adds that now mercenaries are forced to look for work in Africa and the Middle East, but “there is also a difficult situation there.”

“We have stiff competition from the Department of Defense and the National Guard who are planning and trying to access (these areas) with activities similar to ours,” he notes.

A spokesman for Wagner explained that Prigozhin touched on the issue during his most recent trip to Africa, where several countries have expressed interest in his services, although those future contracts are up in the air.

“We will try to find jobs for our participants. When and how much, we do not know. So wait or look for another job. We are closely monitoring the international situation. If our team receives permission to return to the area of ​​the special military operation (in Ukraine), we will actively resume recruiting men. There will be work,” he commented.

At that time, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the mercenaries heroes of the May occupation of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

However, the group fell out of favor after organizing an unsuccessful armed uprising on June 23 and 24, which ended with an agreement to transfer the base to Belarus.

A few weeks before his death, Prigozhin admitted that Wagner would no longer fight in Ukraine and announced the resumption of his activities on the African continent.

However, after returning from Africa, he went to Moscow and the private plane he was flying on crashed on August 23, 300 kilometers from the capital.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, although Prigozhin’s supporters, the opposition in exile and Western media accuse Putin of ordering the liquidation of Wagner’s head, which the Kremlin categorically denies.

According to various sources, some of the mercenaries have left the territory of Belarus, although Minsk claims that they have not gone anywhere, only some will be on vacation.

Some experts believe that “Wagner” as a mercenary organization no longer exists, especially after Putin signed a decree obliging all paramilitary formations and volunteers to swear an oath to the Russian flag, others believe that they still pose a threat, be it Ukraine, Belarus or Africa.

Prigozhin was buried the day before in St. Petersburg, his hometown and the headquarters of the Wagner group, secretly and under strict security.
