The Baza Telegram channel, one of Russia’s most popular news channels, noted that the employee, identified only as Oleksiy Ch., was the deputy head of the regional anti-corruption department of the Russian police.

The same source notes that the attack took place on Saturday, when the man was at large, in the village of Shchetynivka, Belgorod Region.

The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said on Saturday that a man was killed by a drone while he was mowing the grass at his country house in Shchetynivka. Gladkov did not provide details on the man’s identity, but said he was killed after a Ukrainian drone “dropped an explosive device” in his yard.

It is reported that he died of shrapnel wounds.

Belgorod is the closest region of Russia to the northeastern border of Ukraine, the village of Shchetynivka is located approximately 35 kilometers from the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

The terrorist attacks caused panic in Belgorod

Since last year, Russian officials have been claiming that Ukrainians are carrying out drone strikes on civilian objects in Belgorod and other regions, but in most cases they do not provide evidence for this.

At the beginning of June, the authorities here evacuated thousands of people, saying that they were at risk of artillery fire from the Ukrainian army.

The move comes days after an incursion into the region by the Russian Volunteer Corps (VRC), a Ukrainian-funded paramilitary organization made up of Russians opposed to Vladimir Putin. The fighting in the region took place two days before Gladkov’s order to evacuate.

In general, Ukraine does not comment on drone attacks initiated by Russia, and regarding military incursions into the territory of the Russian Federation, it declares that these are independent activities of Russian patriots.
