The Mayor of Moscow, Serhiy Sobyanin, said that an unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down over the Istryna district of the Moscow region by means of air defense. The district is located approximately 50 km west of the Kremlin.

Three major Moscow airports, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo, suspended flights for several hours, TASS reports.

Airstrikes on Moscow and other Russian-controlled territories have intensified in recent weeks, including the interception of 42 drones over the Crimean peninsula on Friday, one of the largest airstrikes reported since the start of the war.

Although the attacks did not cause significant damage, their intensity forced Russian authorities to temporarily close airports serving the capital several times.

Russia blamed Ukraine for Friday’s attack and all previous attacks, which escalated after the downing of two drones over the Kremlin in early May.

Ukraine has not immediately commented and has almost never publicly claimed responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.
