
An Iranian military delegation has arrived in Moscow to discuss cooperation between Iranian and Russian ground forces, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday, as cited by TASS and News.ro.
Russia and Iran, under Western economic sanctions, have strengthened military and other ties since Moscow invaded Ukraine.
The West has accused Iran of selling large numbers of drones to Moscow for use against Ukraine, which Tehran denies despite ample evidence to the contrary.
As reported by the TASS agency, the military delegation from Iran is headed by the commander of the ground forces, Brigadier General Kiyumars Heydari.
“Aspects of military cooperation and interaction, aimed at the implementation of projects aimed at improving the combat training of the armed forces of the two countries, were discussed,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

The Russian military is talking about “expanding” cooperation with Iran
“Iran is considered by the Russian Federation as one of the key states of the Middle East – it is a strategic partner of Russia, and the constant and intensive political dialogue is a characteristic feature of the current stage of our partnership,” the army emphasized during the discussions. Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian Army, General Oleg Salyukov.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the parties reached an agreement on further stimulation of cooperation between the ground forces of Russia and Iran in various fields.
During the visit to Moscow, the Iranian military delegation also visited the International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2023”, “where they got acquainted with the latest weapons and advanced military equipment”, reports TASS.
In addition, “foreign guests are scheduled to visit military educational institutions of the ground forces and enterprises of the defense-industrial complex,” the Russian Ministry of Defense also reported.
