The Russian research institute compared the American Bradley infantry fighting vehicle with its Russian counterpart, not surprisingly finding that the Russian vehicle is better, Lenta reports.
The Steel Research Institute (SRI) in Moscow concluded that the American machine is “significantly weaker” than the most modern version of the armored BMP-3, a machine that entered service with the Soviet armed forces in 1987.
“Bradley is not protected by a grenade, but this car will be protected by an anti-tank grenade,” Yevhen Chistyakov, deputy head of the marketing department of the Scientific Research Institute, told TASS.
In turn, the economic director of the institute, Ruslan Dishekov, said that the new “dynamic protection” system for BMP-3 armored vehicles will enter the army this year and will protect the combat vehicle, including from guided anti-tank missiles.
An example of such a weapon is the portable anti-tank complex “Stugna-P”, which was used with great success by the Ukrainian troops against the Russian invaders.
The Russian manufacturer Rostec announced in May that BMP-3 vehicles are capable of destroying the American Bradley from a distance of several kilometers with guided missiles.
How many armored Bradleys and BMP-3s have Ukraine and Russia lost, respectively
According to estimates by the independent site Oryx, Russia has lost 272 BMP-3s since the beginning of the war, while it is believed to have had about 760 such combat vehicles before the start of the “special operations”.
However, the number of losses is probably much higher, since Oryx only counts those confirmed by photos, videos and other open sources.
The same source puts Ukrainian losses of Bradley vehicles at 49 vehicles, nearly half of what the United States had promised, although it is not entirely clear whether all of them have been delivered so far.
Russian R&D officials did not provide further details about the “comparison” they conducted between the two combat vehicles, as Moscow’s military has repeatedly claimed to have captured American Bradleys, a claim that has not been confirmed by any independent source.
The Russians, however, managed to capture a CV90 BMP supplied to the Ukrainian army by Sweden, which was personally inspected by Russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu after it fell into the hands of the occupiers.
According to the Oryx balance, the Ukrainians lost two CV90 machines, one was captured, the other was damaged.
