The Romanian national team will open the 2023 Women’s European Volleyball Championship in the company of hosts Italy on Tuesday evening. The game will take place outdoors, at the Verona Arena.

Romania – Italy, the first match at the Women’s European Volleyball Championship

The match is scheduled for 21:00. Group B also includes Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland.

According to F. R. Voley, the goal of the national team is to reach the 1/8 finals, that is, to occupy one of the first four places in group B.

“This is an impressive place. I’m into art history, so that interests me as well. The truth is, I’ve never played outside before. I used to play volleyball on the beach, there I knew what happens with the wind, but now everything is different.

I hope all the conditions will be good, especially the humidity, because the last time they played outdoors was in Italy two or three years ago, in the Super Bowl. I hope all conditions are good.

At that time, the final could not be played outside because the playing surface was very slippery due to the humidity. I hope that they are ready, that the mistakes of the Super Cup will not be repeated and there will be no problems”, – Guillermo Naranjo, coach of the national team of Romania.

The match against Italy is special for Adelina Ungurianu, considering that she has already been playing in the first league of this country for four years.

“I caught the fever of the match. This is a positive feeling. I can’t wait and I will give my best on the court, I will enjoy the atmosphere and hope that we will have a good match, let’s enjoy volleyball” – Adelina Unguryanu.

  • The 2023 European Championship (August 15 – September 3) is held in four countries – Belgium, Italy, Germany and Estonia, with 24 teams participating at the start. The first four places in each of the six groups advance to the round of 16.
  • The round of 16 matches will take place on August 27, the quarter-finals on August 29, and the semi-finals and medal finals on September 1 and 3, respectively, in Brussels. The first three places in the ranking will also go to the 2025 World Cup.
  • The 2023 European Championship entered the 33rd stage. The continental title belongs to Italy, after the 2021 final with Serbia, the score 3-1. In the previous edition, the group was also hosted by Romania at the BT Arena. Romania took 23rd place out of 24 participating teams, writes News.ro.
