The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on Tuesday that it had repelled an attempt by Russian hackers to gain access to the combat computer system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, attempts by Russia to penetrate the computers of the government in Kyiv, the Ukrainian military and the national energy system have increased in Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied these accusations, the quoted agency recalls.
“As a result of complex measures, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and blocked the illegal actions of Russian hackers regarding access to Ukrainian military networks and the organization of intelligence gathering,” the service’s message published on Telegram says, according to Reuters and Agerpres.
The hackers tried to gain access to “confidential information about the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the deployment and movement of the defense forces, their technical support,” the SBU added.
The service claims that an experienced team of Russian hackers, known among security researchers as Sandworm, is responsible for the attack. Computer experts established that the hackers intended to use Ukrainian military tablets to spread viruses in the combat system.
