Video footage released by local media on Monday shows a section of the road on the Russia-Crimea bridge coming off and tilting to one side after an incident overnight Sunday into Monday that killed two people.

The footage was shot from the railway bridge, which was not damaged, and was broadcast by the pro-Kremlin channel “Krim 24”.

Russian officials in Crimea blame the “terrorist regime” in Kyiv for the incident.

Ukraine attacked the Crimean bridge at night with the help of surface marine drones, Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee said on Monday, according to state media, cited by Reuters.

The Investigative Committee of Russia stated that Ukrainian “special services” were responsible for the attack and a criminal investigation had been opened.

At least two Ukrainian media, citing unnamed sources, report that the Internal Security Service and the Navy of Ukraine are behind the incident on the Kerch Bridge on Monday, Reuters reports.

Ukrainian television “Suspilne” and the publication “Ukrainian Pravda” reported few details of the operation, in which, according to them, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Navy participated, but “Suspilne”, citing its sources, reported that the bridge attacked with the help of underwater drones.

Suspilne quoted a spokesman for the Navy as saying that it had no such information and urged the broadcaster to wait for official announcements. Ukrainian officials did not comment on the incident.

On the other hand, the incident on the Kerch Bridge may be a provocation from Moscow, Nataliya Humenyuk, spokeswoman for the Southern Military Command of Ukraine, said on Monday, Reuters reports.

“Creating such provocations, which the occupying authorities in Crimea immediately announce very loudly, is a typical way of solving the problems of the Crimean authorities and the aggressor country,” Humenyuk told the National Council TV channel.
