President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that Ukrainian special services received information that Russia was considering a “terrorist” attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with the release of radiation, Reuters reports.

In a video statement on Telegram, he noted that Ukraine shares information with all its international partners.

“Special services have received information that Russia is considering the scenario of a terrorist attack on the Zaporizhzhia NPP – a terrorist attack with the release of radiation,” he said.

“They have prepared everything for this,” Zelenskyy said, without clarifying what evidence the special services based their statement on.

“Unfortunately, I had to remind (people) several times that radiation knows no national borders. And who it will hit depends only on the direction of the wind…” he added.

Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov responded by saying that this was a “lie” and that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency had just visited the plant and gave a very good assessment.

The six-reactor complex, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, was occupied by the Russians almost immediately after the invasion began in January 2022.

Zelenskyi’s statements came two days after the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence accused Russia of “mining” a cooling pool used to keep temperatures under control at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant’s reactors.
