Dutch town warns nudists: ‘No sex on the beach’

Campaign to Prevent Nudists… “public” sex on the beach and surrounding dunes city of the dutch south.

On Thursday, the municipality of Vere put up signs warning beachgoers that public sex is prohibited and that there is “heightened surveillance” to curb “sexual activities on the sand dunes, in the reserve and on the beach.”

“Project Oranjezon” (orange sun) came into effect after a flurry of complaints to the municipality and local environmental organizations about “sexual activities carried out by naked visitors and indications that special groups organized these meetings.

“The dunes are extremely important to the local community and must be protected from unwanted behavior that harms the environment and may disturb other campers. This is an important step to ensure public order and safety,” Mayor Frederic Chauvenaer said in a statement to the Guardian.

Nudist organizations have also supported the campaign by distancing themselves and stating that nudism is one thing and sexual activity in public is another.

“Sex on the beach is not nudism and people who come here for nudism find it just as disturbing as everyone else. Recreating… nudity gives a real feeling of freedom, and it’s great to see real naked bodies that have not been photoshopped, ”explains Karlien Lodewijk, representative of Open en Bloot.

“It’s mostly in August, with Belgians, but also swingers that meet here… If some people meet for sex on the dunes… what can I say, it happens in a crowd. Some prefer to have sex outside the bedroom. And others precisely because it’s forbidden,” says Marco Wiechert, owner of a restaurant in the area, who, despite the general reaction, admits that in the 14 years he has been doing business there, “I’ve never had problems.”
