The meeting between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz continued today in Rome for about two hours.
Then, speaking to reporters about immigration/refugees, the Italian Prime Minister stressed:
“Germany knows that without Italy and the EU maritime border countries, it is difficult to get a more effective migration policy than the current one. If we do not solve the issue of protecting external borders and combating human trafficking, it will be very difficult to cope with these challenges.”

The Prime Minister of Italy expressed the hope that “the member countries of the Union will be able to reach a compromise and meet each other halfway regarding the revision of the Dublin Agreement.”
At the same time, he said that next Sunday he would again travel to Tunisia with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for a series of meetings.
Georgia Meloni, speaking about the Stability Pact, stressed that “new rules are needed that take into account the issue of competitiveness.” “We are of the opinion that the reform of the Pact should take into account the issue of growth, flexibility and support for European investment,” said the head of the Italian government.

Speaking about immigration, the German Chancellor stressed:
“The problems of immigrants and refugees in the European Union can only be solved together. Any attempt to shift the blame to others is doomed to failure. Italy is making great efforts, but many asylum seekers also come to Germany, despite the fact that we have no external borders. Blaming each other does not help, cooperation is needed, and I believe that joint action plans are needed in the immigration field.
