Hakan Fidan, 55, the man who led the Turkish Intelligence Service (MİT) after 2010, is now the new head of Turkish diplomacy, replacing Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Fidan, among other things, is a choice indicating the direction the Turkish leadership is preparing to take in the coming years on the international stage.
National Security Council meeting today
Today, Thursday, the first meeting of the Turkish National Security Council will take place.
Among the topics to be discussed will be: events in Ukraine and the fight against terrorism.
Developments in the Aegean, Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean will also be assessed, and efforts to protect the rights of Turkey and the TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean arising from international law are expected to be discussed.
The meeting is expected to discuss the latest developments in Sweden’s bid for NATO membership.
