Kyiv for the Kakhovka Dam: one of the worst environmental disasters in recent decades

OUR Russia caused “one of the worst environmental disasters of recent decades,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said today after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in the south Ukraine.

“The biggest evil and future threat of this terrorist attack is the ecological catastrophe that it caused in the south of Ukraine,” Shmihal emphasized in a video message at an event of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Smichal called this action, which Kyiv attributes to Moscow, a “crime against humanity” and a “genocide.”

“Dozens of cities and villages will face problems with drinking water, with access to water for irrigation, which will be blocked, which will cause drought and affect crops,” which “threatens global food security,” the Ukrainian prime minister assessed.

In addition, the Kakhovka disaster means that “at least 150 tons of motor oil will end up in the river (Dnepr) with the risk of seeping another 300 tons,” which threatens “flora and fauna,” he continued.

Mass evacuation of residents continued today in southern Ukraine after the destruction of the dam. More than 2,700 people have already been evacuated from flooded areas, according to Ukrainian authorities and Russian-appointed officials.
