Moscow calls on the international community to “condemn” Kyiv for the partial destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station

Russia today called on the international community to “condemn” Kyiv after the partial destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam in southern Ukraine, a disaster that Russians and Ukrainians blame each other for.

“We call on the international community to condemn the criminal actions of the Ukrainian authorities, which are becoming increasingly inhuman and pose a serious threat to regional and global security,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, according to which Moscow even intends to raise the issue before the UN Security Council, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and “other international organizations”.

The partial destruction of this dam, located between the positions of the two belligerents on the Dnieper, caused floods that affected both areas controlled by Kyiv and areas occupied by Russian troops.

Moscow cited “tremendous damage to the region’s agriculture and ecosystem at the mouth of the Dnieper,” as well as water problems in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Kyiv of “advance and deliberate, for military purposes” destruction of this dam.

“Kyiv not only massively bombarded the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, but also deliberately raised the water level of the Kakhovka reservoir to a critical level, opening the floodgates of the Dnepropetrovsk hydroelectric power station,” the Russian side complains.

However, Ukraine accuses Russian forces of blowing up the dam to prevent any attack in the region.
