Conservative MP Robert Stewart is accused by London police of threatening behavior with racist characteristics.
Stewart is a member of the Prime Minister’s Conservative Party. Rishi Sunak and was elected for a decade in the London Borough of Beckenham.
According to police, on December 18, 2022, a man notified authorities via the Internet that he had been subjected to “verbal verbal abuse with racial characteristics” four days earlier in an upscale Belgravia neighborhood. The British media identified the man as Syed Ahmed Aluandai, a 36-year-old democracy activist from Bahrain who claims to have been tortured in his country and now lives in exile in London.
A video released by the BBC shows a man accusing Stuart, who was outside the Bahraini embassy, of taking money out of the country. The deputy answers him: “Go back to Bahrain” and “You take money from my country, leave.”
Scotland Yard said the 73-year-old MP was accused of “threatening behavior or statements with racist overtones” that could “cause irritation, fear or anxiety.” Stewart admitted in an interview with Sky News in December that his reaction was a “mistake” on his part.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Sunak declined to comment on the situation.
