The Belgorod region of Russia, which borders Ukraine, was again subjected to Ukrainian airstrikes on the night of Sunday into Monday, and a drone was shot down in the Kursk region.
“As a result of night raids, a section of the energy infrastructure was damaged (…). The worst thing is that a civilian was injured,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on the VKontakte social network.
Fighting erupted between Russian troops and pro-Ukrainian Russian militants in the Belgorod village of Novaya Tavolyanka on Sunday, with the Russian military claiming to have repulsed an attempt to cross the border by “a sabotage group composed of Ukrainian terrorists.”
In addition, a drone was shot down in the Kursk region, also on the border with Ukraine, local governor Roman Starovoit said.
For his part, Volodymyr Rogov, a Russian spokesman for the occupying authorities in the Zaporozhye region in southern Ukraine, said Ukrainian forces attacked Russian positions there this morning.
“This morning, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive on a larger scale than yesterday (…) The situation is alarming,” he said, according to the TASS news agency.
Kyiv has been saying for months that it is preparing a major counteroffensive against Russian forces. In a video released on Sunday, the Ukrainian army shows soldiers touching their mouths with their fingers in a sign of silence and stressing that there will be no announcement of the start of this operation.
