
The supersonic impact was heard in Washington around the time of the crash of a small Cessna Citation aircraft in a mountainous area in southwestern Virginia.
According to the Office of Emergency Management in Annapolis, Maryland, the cause of the crash was a Pentagon-sanctioned flight. However, it is not clear if the two incidents are related.

According to the company’s website, Cessna Citation aircraft can carry from 7 to 12 passengers, depending on the model.
Residents of the federal capital reported that they heard a strong bang during the day. Fire and security officials said they had no reports of an incident. “There is no threat at this time,” the Department of Homeland Security tweeted.
