The federal prosecutor’s office has an audio recording from 2021, in which the former president, Donald Trumpadmits to having in his possession a secret Pentagon document on a possible attack on Iran.

CNN cited several unidentified sources linking to the footage. Reuters was unable to confirm the report. Trump’s comments indicate that he was aware of the limitations of his ability to declassify documents after leaving office, two sources told CNN.

The classified files on Iran and China are considered among the most secret the FBI has unearthed in its investigation to date. The former president denies any wrongdoing in file management and said in a recent TV interview that he has declassified files in his possession. According to Trump, the president can declassify information “just by thinking.”

Some of the files in question were discovered on August 8, when FBI agents searched Trump’s home and found 13,000 documents, 103 of which were classified and 18 were classified. These documents are the third in a series of documents discovered during the investigation. Earlier this year, boxes full of files containing 184 classified documents and 15 top secret documents were handed over. In June, at the request of the authorities, another 38 cases were transferred.

Trump’s spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
