
About 80 Russian soldiers deserted in the occupied Lysytsyansk district of the Luhansk region, about 30 mercenaries of the “Wagner” PMC fled to the Bakhmut district, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports Ukrainian Pravda.
The General Staff said that 30 members of Wagner’s group, who escaped in the Bakhmut area, also stole military equipment from their positions.
The General Staff also reports that in the temporarily occupied Nizhnysyrogoz district of the Kherson region, the Russians are pressuring Ukrainian citizens to obtain Russian passports, threatening deportation and confiscation of property.
“Yes, local citizens with a Ukrainian passport, driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate are threatened with confiscation if they refuse to receive Russian documents,” the report says.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of Wagner’s mercenary group, said on May 20 that Russian troops are in full control of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
He added that the mercenaries under his command were to withdraw from Bakhmut’s positions on Thursday from Bakhmut to recuperate and rest.
