
Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) has granted the request of the Turkish opposition and is extending the voting period for Turkish emigrants abroad from two to five days in regards to the second round of the presidential elections.
The process began on Saturday, May 20, and instead of ending on May 21, it has now been extended until Wednesday, May 24, with Turkish expatriates being able to cast their vote even on Election Day in the Republic of Turkey in some cases. on Sunday, May 28th.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s Republican People’s Party submitted a request to extend the voting period for Turkish emigrants, which was accepted. Thus, the electoral process outside of Turkey, which takes place in 167 embassies and consulates in 73 foreign countries, including Greece, will last until Wednesday.
After the end of the voting process abroad, the votes will be transferred to Turkey by diplomatic couriers under strict security conditions in the ways specified by YSK.
These votes will be stored in a secure location at the Ankara Exhibition Center under the chairmanship of the Outer Regions Electoral Committee. They will open on Sunday, May 28, at 17:00, after voting in Turkey is completed along with the rest of the polling stations. The counting of votes will be carried out under the supervision of the Chairman of the Electoral Commission of the Outer Regions.
