US: Only African-American Republican in Senate nominates

OUR republican Senator Tim Scott today announced his nomination from the party. A poor child of a single mother and the only black Republican in the US Senate, Scott often cites his personal history as evidence that his country remains a “promised land.”

Scott, a poor kid from a single-parent family in South Carolina, often presents his personal history as proof that America remains a land of opportunity. Today he filed an application for the nomination of his candidacy to the Federal Election Commission.

His affable demeanor contrasts with his declared or potential rivals for the Republican nomination, such as former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis, who portray the US as a country in decline that needs to be rescued from a corrupt leftist elite.

As a black and conservative, Scott is a rare exception in a country where 92% of African-American voters supported Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. 55% of white voters voted for Trump.

Scott frequently criticized Trump during his presidency for racist comments and blocked many judicial candidates nominated by the tycoon president for the same reason. However, at the same time, he accused the Democrats of using racial tensions for party gain.

Although he has stated that he was a victim of racial prejudice, he insists that the US is not a racist country.

Only 2% of Republicans plan to vote for him in the primary, according to average polls, while his national profile remains low. More than half of Republicans plan to vote for Trump, and about a fifth prefer DeSandis, who is expected to enter the race in the coming days. However, Scott’s chances may be higher than they appear on paper.

He is well known and loved in his home state of South Carolina, which plays a key role in the Republican nomination race, being only the third state to vote.

Scott also has a strong relationship with donors. Larry Ellison. one of the richest Americans, co-founder of Oracle, is among the people who said they would support his Republican candidacy.
