Dan Petrescu and three goals conceded by CFR Cluj

After a season in which he fought on three fronts, Dan Petrescu announced that he still has a year left on his contract, but at the moment he has not discussed with the club’s management the strategy they will follow at the end of the season.

“This is not a very good situation for the Cluj CFR. This is the first time in recent years that a team has lost its mathematical chances for the title with two stages to go. This is clearly not what we wanted. We wanted something different, but too much has happened, there’s no point in talking about it any more.

I played 60 games this season, it was very difficult on three fronts. I ran after three rabbits and didn’t catch a single one. I’ve also been unlucky with injuries. There were also major refereeing errors in the first seven playoff matches, and there were no more serious errors in the eighth.

It is still very difficult because we have two or three games left. And it is possible that tomorrow we will have four under-21s in the field from the start. This is now the reality of many. On top of that, there are internal issues, and all of that has led us to a place we didn’t want to be.

Now we have a match against Sepsi and in my opinion they are favorites under the current circumstances. I am convinced that all players will play until the final of the Cup. They have enthusiasm, I understand that the boss has doubled the premiums, and it shows, they have enthusiasm. Unfortunately, we have no morale, no spirit, no players. All this makes it not a very good condition.

This is probably the worst moment of my entire mandate at CFR Cluj. The only achievable goal now is 3rd place, but if we lose this match too, it will be very difficult. The reality is that Sepsy is the favorite. They have more experienced players. I am telling the truth.

I know I have one more year on my contract, until 2024, but I haven’t been told what will happen in the summer, whether we will take players, whether we will give players, whether we have the budget or not. At the moment I don’t know anything.

After a fantastic 2022, perhaps the best of my career, this 2023 came with results that we did not expect. Let’s see what we do next. Not me, the club is more important, the club should know what they are doing. But at the moment no decision has been made. I have not received any offer. I have one year left on my contract.

If I were to leave CFR Cluj, I would only go abroad, definitely not to Romania. The boss hasn’t spoken to me yet, we haven’t met yet. I think we will see each other at the end of the season or maybe next week. Maybe he was too busy, I don’t know… He’s free to do what he wants, he’s the boss” – said Dan Petrescureports Agerpres.

Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe and CFR Cluj will meet on Saturday, at 20:30, in the ninth stage of the Superliga playoffs.
