IT company employee Britannia sued her boss sexual harassment because he felt that the use of the abbreviations “xx”, “yy” and “????” they were coded love messages.
Karina Gasparova also thought that when Alexandros Goulandris renamed the working file with the initials “ajg”, it was an abbreviation of “A Jumbo Genital” (trans. “big penis”) and that the observations highlighted in red XX, YY and ?? these were “coded messages”.
Many users, when they want to write that they are “sending kisses” to a familiar person with whom they communicate electronically, close their message with “XX”. Gasparova sued the company, alleging that she had been subjected to sexual harassment, discrimination and unfair dismissal.
She claimed that her boss “tried to pick up her conversation” when they discussed business matters and that he was looking at her.
At the hearing, it was said that Ms. Gasparova filed a formal complaint against Mr. Goulandris in April 2021, but resigned after the application was rejected.
The London Labor Court ruled that Ms Gasparova’s interpretation of the events was “misrepresented” and her claims were dismissed. He also ordered her to pay £5,000 towards the costs of the other party.
