Her government Germany announced today that it is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraineworth 2.7 billion euros, which includes many tanks, armored vehicles and air defense systems.
“We all wish a speedy end to this terrible war of hers. Russia against the Ukrainian people, but unfortunately this does not appear. For this reason, Germany will provide the maximum possible assistance for as long as necessary,” German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in a statement.
As part of this assistance, Berlin will provide Kyiv with another twenty Marder armored personnel carriers, 30 Leopard-1 tanks and four IRIS-T-SLM air defense systems, Pistorius said.
For his part, Andriy Yermak, head of the presidential administration of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said in a Telegram message that the country would also receive 200 reconnaissance drones, 100 armored vehicles, as well as a large amount of ammunition.
According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, this is the largest aid package Germany has offered to Ukraine.
The announcement was made a day before Zelenskiy’s possible visit to Germany.
According to German media leaks, the Ukrainian president, who is in Rome today, is still traveling to Germany to meet with government officials and receive the Charlemagne Award on Sunday.
Zelensky’s visit has not been officially confirmed by Berlin.
