Supreme Court Pakistan today ordered his immediate release Imran Khanthereby overturning the Islamabad court’s decision to arrest the former prime minister.
“Your arrest is invalid and the entire process must be reviewedsaid Umar Ata Badial, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, which was considering an appeal by Khan’s lawyers against his arrest in a corruption case.
Khan’s arrest caused violent demonstrations throughout the country, forcing the government to use the military to restore order. Yesterday, Wednesday, 70-year-old Khan was detained by a special court in Islamabad for eight days in a corruption case.
At least five people died in violent incidents which have caused instability in this South Asian country of 220 million, which is struggling to cope with a severe economic crisis.
