Military general Serhiy Lipovoy, who has been awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation, said on Thursday that Ukraine had launched about 100 drones over Russian territory on Victory Day, hoping that some of them would land on Red Square in Moscow. Pravda reports.
But Major General of the Russian Air Force and president of the veteran organization “Officers of Russia” Lipovoy said that all the drones launched by the Ukrainians were destroyed “by means of air defense of the Russian Federation and means of electronic warfare.”
He also said at a press conference Thursday morning that during those attacks, the Russian armed forces detected American drones “with a range of up to 800 kilometers.”
The Russian Major General added that the strikes planned for May 9 were not only aimed at the capital Moscow and Red Square, where a military parade was held in memory of the victory in the “Great Patriotic War”, but also at several regions of Russia, in particular Belgorod, Voronezhskaya. , Kursk and Kaluga.
His statements were received with skepticism even in the Russian Internet environment, considering that information about alleged similar attacks did not appear for two days and the general did not specify where he would get such data.
However, Lipovoy returned on Thursday afternoon to “clarify” things.
“The information that about 100 Ukrainian drones allegedly flew to Moscow on May 9 is unverified. They were obtained from unofficial sources through social media posts,” he said, without elaborating.
In March, Lipovoy said that the Ukrainian strike on the Kalibr missile batch that month was planned precisely during the talks in Moscow between President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
“It is safe to conclude that this terrorist attack was planned and carried out precisely at a time when high-level negotiations between the leaders of Russia and China are ongoing in Moscow,” he said.
