FCSB once again faced a big problem caused by its owner Gigi Bekali (64). Just as when the team was at risk of relegation after the businessman was convicted in the case of the suitcase, when 1.7 million euros were sent to Cluj, now they are at risk of dropping 3 points in the ranking.
Then President Traian Basescu was directly involved in the problem and the team was not affected, although Becali was sentenced to 3 years in prison with execution for football bribery.
On 4 May 2023, the Disciplinary Commission of the FRF sanctioned Gigi Bekali, the owner of FCSB, with a warning and a fine of 5,000 lei for “Offensive, defamatory behavior and statements affecting the image of football”.
The CCA made the note following Becali’s comments following FCSB’s 1-1 draw with Universitat Craiova, when the referees were accused of creating problems for FCSB.
