A Ukrainian government official says the long-awaited counteroffensive will begin “only when the time comes,” without specifying when.

  • “Ukraine is carefully planning a very important counteroffensive against Russian forces, a counteroffensive that must be successful,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine told Sky News.

As for why it took so long for the Ukrainian army to officially launch a counteroffensive, the Ukrainian prime minister said: “We are preparing very carefully, because this is a very important operation, and we must be successful in this operation for our society, for the whole world.”

In the UK, Denis Smigal visited a military training ground on Salisbury Plain to see how British and New Zealand forces are helping to train Ukrainian recruits in a UK-led aid program aimed at turning thousands of Ukrainian civilians into soldiers. Answering a question about whether some recruits who are being trained will return to Ukraine and be part of the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian prime minister said: “At this training base, our future soldiers, boys and girls, get all the knowledge and practical experience for the battlefield.”
