Her Foreign Minister China Qin Gang said today that China-US relations need to be stabilized after a series of “wrong words and actions” that led to their freezing.
Chin, at a meeting in Beijing with US Ambassador Nicholas Burns, emphasized that USA they should correct their attitude towards the Taiwan issue and stop undermining the One China principle.
Relations between Europe’s two largest economies soured last year when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an official visit to Taiwan, angering China, which claims the island as its territory.
In response, Beijing cut off official channels of communication with the United States, including between its armed forces.
Tensions between the two superpowers eased in November when the two leaders Joe Biden and Xi Jinping met at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Indonesia and pledged to engage in more dialogue.
“A series of misguided words and actions by the US since then has undermined the hard-won positive momentum of Sino-US relations,” Chin told Burns, according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement.
“The agenda for dialogue and cooperation agreed by both sides has been cut short and relations between the two countries are once again frozen.”
“The Sino-US relationship is of great importance not only for China and the United States, but for the whole world,” Qin said.
“The top priority is to stabilize Sino-US relations, prevent a spiral of deterioration, and prevent any incidents between China and the United States.”
