France: a very different invasion of the field (video)

Chaos erupted before a rugby match in France when a bull escaped from the hands of a pre-game demonstration and rushed onto the field, chasing the players. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

It was rugby league, the most professional form of British rugby, between the Catalans Dragons and St Helens on Friday.

Television cameras showed how the bull escaped from the hands of the owner, dragging him along the ground and storming the field. The players threw the balls and ran for cover, some of them jumping into the crowd.

Finally, after about 30 seconds, the bull returned to his trainers and other animals standing outside the arena at the Gilbert Brutus bullring in Perpignan.

The club originally intended to present three prize bulls and two cows to the public prior to the race to honor local breeding and promote Guasch Viandes, a meat business owned by the club’s president.

However, things didn’t quite go as planned. Fortunately, rugby players know how to run when they are being chased.

And the bull turned out to be more peaceful than it seemed at first glance, because he probably wanted to … take part in the game, doing what professional players do, and not attacking them.

However, for safety reasons, the referee did not show him the card, as it would have been… red.
