Russia announced on Thursday the development of an attack drone called “Upiór” (Undead), which it plans to use against Ukrainian tanks, TASS reports.
This was stated by a representative of the arms company that developed the unmanned aircraft, who told TASS that it was designed for use behind enemy lines.
He also stated that the first batch of “Undead” drones has already been created by 3D printing and is being used in the “special operation” area.
“The main task of our work is to strike the enemy at tactical depth to isolate the combat zone. In other words, we want to block the possibility of transporting ammunition, personnel and equipment in order to make combat operations as difficult and unbearable as possible for the enemy,” the company’s representative told TASS.
He also argued that another important purpose of the new drones would be to target Ukrainian tanks, where they could be used to fire from static fortified positions on Russian troops in urban guerrilla warfare such as Bakhmut.
“Nezhyt”, developed by the Russians to launch hand grenades
The Russian arms company says that the Strigoi drone will be able to detect and attack such targets, “which will greatly simplify the fight against the enemy’s armored vehicles.” His representative declined to provide more technical details, saying he wanted the drone to be a “surprise” for Ukrainian armored formations.
At the same time, he noted that it will be able to launch several types of hand or anti-tank grenades.
Other representatives of the company, the name of which the Russian press does not mention, say that now they have moved on to another important problem – finding a replacement for the components that provide the drone’s video transmission, and of the FPV type (which allows you to shoot in real time).
The comments came after NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced last week that Ukraine’s Western partners had delivered the vast majority of promised weapons, including 230 modern tanks, and that Kyiv’s armed forces had the equipment they needed for their long-awaited offensive.
