USA: 13-year-old student stopped a school bus when the driver passed out (video)

Thanks to his composure and reflexes, a 13-year-old student managed to avoid a collision with a school bus in Michigan, USA, when the driver of the vehicle suddenly became ill and passed out while driving.

Little Dillon Reeves was riding a school bus with about 60 classmates when he realized that the driver had passed out. “He jumped out of his seat, dropped his backpack and ran forward as the bus moved,” Robert Livernois, head of Michigan schools, said at a news conference on Thursday.

The incident happened on Wednesday in Warren, north of Detroit, as students were returning home.

The video from the school camera really shows how the driver feels discomfort and at some point loses consciousness. 13-year-old Dillon Reeves rushes inside and takes control of the steering wheel, slams on the brakes, and brings the car to a halt as screams of terrified children are heard. He is then heard yelling at his classmates to call for help immediately.

An ambulance took the driver to the nearest hospital, and according to CNN, he is not in danger.

The student’s reaction “made a difference,” Robert Livernoy emphasized.

Visibly touched, yet proud, the 13-year-old’s parents praised their son at a press conference, calling him a “little hero.”

Thanks to Dillon Reeves, “an accident that could have had tragic consequences was averted,” council member Jonathan Lafferty wrote in a Facebook post.
