Mattel introduced a new doll today. Barbie with Down syndrome.
“Our goal is to give all children the opportunity to see themselves through Barbie and encourage them to play with dolls that don’t look like them,” commented Lisa McKnight, company manager.

The new doll, created in collaboration with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) of the United States, will be available in stores this summer.

She is smaller than other Barbies, with a longer torso than the rest of her body, smaller ears, and almond-shaped eyes, which are common to people with Down syndrome.
