The Russian state news agency TASS, citing an unnamed source in the Russian-backed “force structures” of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, reported that Ukrainian troops blew up buildings during their retreat from the outskirts of Bakhmut.

“This is another Russian informational provocation aimed at … diverting attention from the crimes of the Wagner terrorist organization,” army spokesman Serhiy Cherevaty told Reuters, referring to the private military company Wagner, which is fighting alongside Russian forces.

“Ukraine’s military personnel absolutely adhere to all rules and doctrines of warfare (and) never violate either national or international law, especially in relation to civilians.”

Separatists in eastern Donetsk region said on Wednesday that Ukrainian forces killed 20 civilians two days ago after blowing up four residential buildings in the city of Bakhmut, Russian news agency TASS reported.
