The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that 106 Russian servicemen who were in custody in “mortal danger” have been returned.
The servicemen will be taken to Moscow, where they will be provided with medical care and psychological support, the report said.
Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Andriy Yermak announced the return of 100 servicemen to Ukraine. Ukraine.
“We returned 100 of our people – these are soldiers, sailors, border guards and National Guardsmen,” he said, referring to the “difficult” exchange and adding that among them there are defenders of Mariupol, Azovstal, and Gostomel.
“Some have been seriously injured and are sick. We will do everything necessary so that everyone gets all the help they need,” he added in his Telegram message.
The last exchange of prisoners between Kiev and Moscow took place on March 7, when Ukraine returned 130 of its soldiers, and Russia returned 90.
In December 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that more than 1,300 prisoners had been returned to Ukraine in exchange with Russia since the start of the war.
Since then, there have been several more exchanges.
