“Only according to official data, at least 20,000 children were forcibly removed by the Russian army from the temporarily occupied territories (in Ukraine), separated from their parents and forcibly placed in Russian families,” Andriy Yermak wrote in Telegram. “Their own parents have no idea where their children are or what happened to them,” the official added.

At the time, Yermak wrote on Twitter that he had spoken with Amal Clooney’s lawyer about the importance of legal support in the case of deported children, according to CNN.

He emphasized that it is important for Ukraine that all deported children be returned, and “Russian criminals” be brought to justice.

Kyiv will develop new methods of protecting children’s rights and preventing attempts to harm them in the future, a Ukrainian official assures.

The International Criminal Court accuses Vladimir Putin of war crimes for deporting thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia and for operating a network of camps where children were subjected to “political re-education.”

For her part, Amal Clooney confirmed her support for Ukraine. The Clooney Justice Fund, which the human rights activist founded with her husband, American actor George Clooney, announced that it will “work to promote accountability and justice for victims of international crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.”

A Ukrainian official thanked Amal Clooney for her support, citing a speech she gave to the UN Security Council shortly after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. “People of Ukraine, I know about your support, and I really appreciate it.” many. Many people heard your speech and everything you said about the war and Ukrainians. This is extremely important,” Andriy Yermak said.
