
Billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Ann Leslie Smith broke off their engagement just weeks after announcing their wedding.
Vanity Fair, which first reported on Tuesday, noted that “the split ends in a whirlwind romance that made headlines around the world.” Murdoch owns Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, the NY Post and many other publications.
Murdoch and Smith’s relationship came to light earlier this year when they were photographed vacationing on the Caribbean island of Barbados about a year after his divorce from model Jeri Hall, whom he married in March 2016.
On March 20, Cindy Adams, who writes gossip column for Murdoch’s New York Post tabloid, announced that they were engaged. “I was afraid to fall in love, but I knew it would be my last love,” Murdoch said at the time.
The billionaire has six children from previous marriages: daughter Prudence, 64, from first wife Patricia Booker, Elizabeth, 53, and sons Lachlan, 50, and James, 49, from second wife Anna Mann, and daughter, 21. – old Grace and 19-year-old Chloe with his third wife, Wendi Deng.
Murdoch married his first wife, former flight attendant Patricia, in 1956, but they divorced in 1967. That same year, he married his second wife, Anna, a journalist with whom he had been together for 32 years before divorcing in 1999. According to CNBC, their divorce settlement resulted in Anna winning $1.7 billion, including $10 million in cash.
