Zelensky: President of Ukraine is on a visit to Poland

President Volodymyr Zelensky is currently one of Ukraine’s most important allies in Poland, said Marcin Przydacz, foreign affairs adviser to the Polish president.

According to Mr. Przhidats, the visit takes place at the invitation of President Andrei Duda. “Long, wide-ranging negotiations are ahead, not only about the security situation, but also about economic and political support. This will be an official visit,” he told radio station RMF. He added that Mr. Zelensky will meet at Castle Square in Warsaw with Polish citizens and Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Poland.

Poland said the talks would focus on developments on the Ukrainian front, international support and economic cooperation. The Ukrainian presidential administration did not say anything in advance about the trip or what it would focus on.

Ongoing military support

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Tuesday that Kyiv is grateful to Poland for paving the way for the supply of MiG fighters. “MiGs from Poland will significantly strengthen our defenses, make our skies safer, save the lives of our citizens, and also reduce damage from Russian attacks,” he wrote on Telegram.

It was also recently announced that Ukraine is ordering 100 armored personnel carriers from Poland, which will be financed by US and European funds. As reported a few days ago, Poland has delivered the first MiG-29 fighter jets it promised to Ukraine, and the Slovak government has also taken a similar step.

On March 23, Slovakia announced that it had supplied Ukraine with the first four such aircraft out of 13 promised.

The reaction of Polish farmers

At the same time, Polish public opinion overwhelmingly supports the Ukrainians in their war with Russia. According to an Ipsos poll, 82% of Poles believe NATO and EU countries should support Ukraine until it wins.

However, Zelenskiy’s visit comes amid growing dissatisfaction among farmers with the impact of Ukrainian grain imports, which have pushed prices down in many eastern EU countries, Reuters said.

Tariffs on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine may have to be reinstated if the influx of price-crushing products into EU markets cannot be stopped by other means, according to a letter released on Friday from the prime ministers of five eastern states addressed to the EU president. The Ursula von der Leyen Committee.

In February, Zelensky traveled abroad for only the second time since the start of the war, visiting London, Paris and Brussels. The first trip took him to Poland and the US in December.
