Aleksey Moskalyov, father of a 13-year-old student who drew an anti-war cartoon, was sentenced in Russia to two years in prison for “discrediting” the Russian army, who disappeared after being detained in Minsk. On Tuesday, April 4, informs “OVD-Info”.

“He was dragged out, taken in an unknown direction,” said lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov. For almost a week, since March 30, the man has not been contacted, his whereabouts unknown by the lawyers representing his interests. Where is Moskalev’s daughter, they don’t know either. “Lawyer Vladimir Biliyenko was not allowed to meet Masha: on her last visit, she was allegedly at an outdoor cooking competition,” OVD-Info said in a statement. On April 6, a trial will be held to restrict Alexei Moskalev’s parental rights.

Anti-war cartoon and criminal case against Moskalev

In April 2022, sixth graders were given an assignment in a visual arts class: to make drawings in support of Russian troops in Ukraine. Masha Moskaleva depicted two flags – the Russian Federation and Ukraine; on the first she wrote “No to war”, on the second – “Glory to Ukraine”. Then the principal called the police, the girl and her father were taken to the police station, the FSB officers came to the school to “talk” with the student.

Later, an administrative filing was drawn up against the student’s father in the article about “discrediting” the Russian army, citing his anti-war comments on social media. At the end of 2022, a search was carried out in Moskalev’s apartment. A criminal case was opened against the man for repeated “disrepute” of the RF Armed Forces. On the eve of the court verdict, Moskalev escaped from house arrest. On March 30, a man was arrested in Minsk. His daughter was placed in an orphanage by the Russian authorities.
