Russian prosecutors on Tuesday formally charged Daria Trepova with terrorism in connection with the recent killing of military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky in St. Petersburg, Reuters and Agerpres reported.
Tatarsky was killed as a result of an explosion that occurred on Sunday in a cafe in St. Petersburg owned by the leader of Wagner’s mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhin.
The Investigative Committee, which investigates Russia’s biggest crimes, said it had charged 26-year-old Daria Trepova with “a terrorist act by an organized group that intentionally caused death.”
According to the indictment, Trepova received instructions from persons acting on behalf of Ukraine.
Daria Trepova was being taken from St. Petersburg to Moscow, where the prosecutor’s office was going to petition the district court for the defendant to be remanded in custody.
Vladlen Tatarsky, a staunch supporter of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, was killed by an explosive device hidden in a plaster statue given to a military blogger by an attendee at an event where Tatarsky, who called for the “total destruction of Ukraine,” had intended to speak about his experience a military reporter at the front in eastern Ukraine. As a result of the explosion, about 30 people were also injured.
Russian security forces detained Daria Trepova, who was identified as the person who handed over the corresponding statuette. Trepova was already under the crosshairs of the authorities last February, when she was sentenced to ten days of administrative arrest for an unauthorized rally against the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.
