BRUSSELS – ANSWER. Representatives of the Belgian police, in cooperation with the Germans, visited the headquarters of the European People’s Party in Brussels today, which was confirmed by sources in the party.
This was preceded by an Euractiv publication that spoke of a raid by the Belgian police authorities on the headquarters of the EPP.
According to an EPP source, the authorities’ visit is related to an ongoing investigation in Thuringia, Germany, without specifying what.
The information indicates, however, that this investigation concerns a former associate of party chairman Manfred Weber, and not current employees of the EPP.
The same information says that it is essentially checking how long he has been an EPP partner and how much money he has received for this partnership.
“The EPP is cooperating in full transparency with the authorities involved, providing all necessary information and documents,” the same sources state, adding: “As this is an ongoing legal investigation, the EPP will not make any further comment.”
