With a bandage on his nose, the 54-year-old actor sent a video message in which he announced that in the coming days he will learn the results of some tests he took for skin cancer.

In his video message, the Australian actor said his doctor noticed “little things that may or may not be basal cell carcinoma.” Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and can be caused by excessive sun exposure. According to the NHS, treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer is successful in 90% of cases.

Hugh Jackman says he hopes his experience will remind people of the need to protect themselves from the sun:

  • “Please don’t forget about sun protection! It’s just not worth the risk, no matter how much you want a tan. Believe me!”.

And in 2015, Jackman announced that he was diagnosed with skin cancer.

Born in Sydney, Hugh Jackman is best known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men.
