What Russia says about the explosion that killed Vladen Tatarsky
Russia’s National Counter-Terrorism Committee said on Monday that jailed dissident Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Fund was involved in the assassination of military blogger Vladen Tatarsky, and that Trepova was involved in the murder as one of the organization’s supporters.
“It has been established that the terrorist attack committed on April 2 in St. Petersburg against the well-known journalist Vladlen Tatarskyi was planned by the special services of Ukraine with the involvement of agents from among the employees of the so-called Anti-Corruption Fund. imprisoned Trepova, being his active supporter,” said the press release of this agency of the Russian Federation on Monday.
The statement came after Russian state media reported early Monday that authorities had arrested a woman named Daria Trepova in connection with the killing, who had previously been detained for protesting Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine last year.
The Moscow press has not yet reported more details about the woman.
Blogger Vladen Tatarsky, also known as Maxim Fomin, was one of the most famous and influential military bloggers in Russia. He died on Sunday in an explosion at the bar of Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Russian businessman who founded Wagner’s mercenary group in 2014.
A video posted on social media shows Fomin receiving a statue as a gift from a woman in the audience who introduced herself as the sculptor minutes before the explosion. Fomin held a public presentation at Street Food Bar #1 Café in the center of St. Petersburg.
Prigozhin confirmed that he offered his Street Food Bar #1 Café to the Russian ultra-nationalist Cyber Front Z movement to host Fomin’s event and other nationalist gatherings.
Russian authorities said the explosion killed Fomin and injured 30 people who had come to hear Fomin talk about his experience as a front-line correspondent. The event was open and gathered about 100 spectators.
Russian Interior Ministry sources told Russian state media that the explosives may have been set off remotely, and that the woman or other unidentified individuals may have been responsible for the attack.
The Navalny Foundation opened Putin’s palace on the Black Sea to the world
Alexei Navalny has been in custody since January 17, 2021, when he was detained at the Moscow airport after returning to the country after completing treatment for poisoning with the neurotoxic substance “Novachok”.
He was later sentenced to prison in several show trials organized by the Russian authorities.
In the summer of 2020, Navalny already stated that the Anti-Corruption Fund was closing its offices due to repeated fines. She and her colleagues were behind several investigations over the years that exposed high-level corruption in Russia.
In January 2021, after Navalny’s arrest, his foundation released a nearly two-hour documentary about the huge property and luxurious palace near the Russian Black Sea city of Gelendzhik that was secretly built for Putin.
The documentary, watched millions of times, led to the outbreak of large-scale protests in major cities of Russia, brutally suppressed by the authorities. A year later, Navalny’s investigators published a new series of photos that showed the incredible luxury inside the palace built for Putin.
