Kremlin said today that it is important to identify an object found near one of the pipelines Nord Streamand said that the ongoing investigation into last September’s pipeline explosions should be carried out with full transparency.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also told reporters that it was a positive sign that Denmark had invited the pipeline operator. Nord Stream 2whose largest shareholder is the Russian Gazprom, to help find an unidentified object found near the Baltic Sea pipelines.

“It is certainly positive news when the owner of the pipeline is invited to take part in very important stages of the investigation,” Peskov said.

Danish authorities said last week that a tubular object 10 centimeters in diameter, protruding about 40 centimeters from the bottom, was discovered during an inspection of the last remaining intact Nord Stream gas pipeline by its operator, Nord Stream AG.

Yesterday, Denmark invited the Nord Stream AG consortium to take part in the search for restoration of the facility. “It is very important to determine what kind of object it is, if it is related to this terrorist attack – obviously, it is – and in order to continue the investigation, it must be transparent,” Peskov added.

Three of the four Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines exploded in non-flammable conditions last September.

Russia, without providing evidence, blamed the bombings on the UK and the US, and European investigators did not say who they thought was responsible.
