Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday that the Americans “have gone completely crazy” and urged not to feel sorry for them, commenting in this way on the incident involving the American MQ-9 drone and two Russian Su-27 fighter jets over the Black Sea, EFE and Agerpres report .

“The Americans, generally speaking, have gone completely crazy. And it is wrong to feel sorry for them, wrote Medvedev, currently the vice-president of the Security Council of Russia, in his Telegram channel about the incident this Tuesday.

At the same time, Medvedev assessed that, “of course, contacts between the military” of Russia and the United States are necessary.

“Especially against the background of the statements of such damned Americans as Senator (Republican Lindsey) Graham, who said that the Russian planes should be shot down. By the way, sometimes such people get into plane crashes,” warned Medvedev, who ended his text with an emoticon with the image of a cross.

Medvedev says that Russia sets the rules in the Black Sea

The former Russian president also said that the Russian Air Navigation Code allows the government to establish no-fly zones or air restrictions.

“Drones must comply with these regulations, especially during periods of hostilities, as airspace users know. Moreover, it is difficult to determine the moment of entry of an aircraft or a drone into territorial waters,” he insisted.

The US blamed that one of two Russian Su-27 fighter jets escorting the US drone engaged the MQ-9’s propeller, causing it to fall into the international waters of the Black Sea.

Instead, the Russian Defense Ministry denied any contact between Russian aircraft and the American drone, claiming that the drone made a sudden maneuver and fell into the sea after losing altitude.

A video taken by a drone before the strike and released by the US side, however, contradicts Moscow’s version of what happened.
