De Gaulle Jr. has already caused a backlash. He told French newspaper Le Parisien last month that the West “unfortunately allowed Volodymyr Zelensky, his oligarchs and neo-Nazi military groups to fall into a spiral of war.”
Yves de Gaulle, Pierre’s older brother, told Le Parisien on January 24 that his brother’s views “do not concern anyone but him – not me, not our family, and even less so the general.”
Pierre de Gaulle did not comment on his brother’s remarks, according to The Guardian, and declined to answer a question about whether his surname could be used to legitimize the war in Ukraine, as de Gaulle proudly mentioned his grandfather when asked about the conflict at a conference.

“My grandfather knew Russian leaders and citizens very well,” he said. “Thus, he was fully aware of the interest and geographical necessity of Europe and France to enter into an alliance with Russia. “More and more people understand that this conflict was created in order to destroy the united bloc of Europe in the interests of the Americans,” he said.
