Czech Republic: Demonstrations against poverty and the supply of weapons to Ukraine

Thousands of people gathered yesterday Saturday on Wenceslas Square in Prague, participating in a demonstration under the general slogan “Czech Republic against poverty”.

They waved national flags and shouted slogans calling for the right-wing liberal government to step down.

The protesters accused the government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala of not doing enough to fight inflation.

At the end of the action, part of the protesters went to the National Museum, located on the square, and demanded that the Ukrainian flag on the building be replaced with the Czech one.

Among the demands of the protesters, which are also circulating on social networks, are measures to reduce energy prices and stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine. They added that the government in Prague should take on a mediating role in the war.

Although they advocated continued assistance to Ukraine, they asked that it be humanitarian, not military.

Counter-protesters with Ukrainian and NATO flags, on the other hand, held banners with slogans against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
