Sofia Kenin defeated Elena Rybakina in Indian Wells

The American, ranked 170th in the world, gave Rybakina a tough test, but the Wimbledon champion prevailed after two hours and 10 minutes of play and two tiebreaks 7-6 (6), 7-6(5).

Olena (this year’s Australian Open finalist) will beat Iberian Paula Badoza (21st favorite) in the third round.

The winner of a major tournament (Australian Open 2020) Kenin has been having very poor seasons since her excellent performance in Melbourne three years ago.

Just a few weeks after her triumph at Rod Laver Arena, Kenin rose to No. 4 in the WTA rankings, a career-high.

  • It was Sofia Kenin’s seventh defeat of the year, her best result this season coming in the WTA semifinals in Hobart (category 250) in January.
  • Since 2020 (the season in which he won the Australian Open), Kenin has not triumphed in any tournament. In 2021, he had 11 wins and 10 losses, and in 2022 he won ten times, but lost another 17 controversial games.
